“Fleurie, in French it means full of flowers. If she is a flower, she would be the back rose born from the fire-Mysterious with connotation kept deep inside, beautiful with a charm attractive to others, unique as no one could copy exactly the same style as her.”

She is one of my favourite independent musician - Fleurie.
Lauren Strahm (born October 10, 1990), known by her stage name Fleurie, is an American musician. She began writing songs at age 11 but it was until 17 that she shared them with the public. At age 21 she chose to move to Nashville after college to pursue music as a career. Now she’s working as a singer, a songwriter, and a record producer.
Labeled as an independent musician, her songs might not be popular to all but they are in no doubt unique and stylish. With her ethereal, mysterious and charming voice, she has created a distinct and impressive atmosphere for her songs.
Unlike other pop songs that go with a predictable melodies, her songs always ow rare and inscrutable ones, yet they leave deep impression to listeners. And her songs often go with strong beat(Can You Feel the Heat Now) which stimulates to swing with the song. As for timbre, her voice could reach both the low and high notes, the young and magnetic sound could easily convey a sense of mystery and dreamland. Besides the voice of herself, she’s also good at using the techniques like the effects of loud-speaker(Can You Feel the Heat Now) and electronic voice(Love Has No Limit) to create an even stronger unreal world. The harmony and symphony are also the decorations in her songs for the creation of atmosphere.
Just like a black rose, even if it’s a flower, it would not be the normal beautiful one. It would not appeared to be bright or delightful at the first glance. Her songs give out a sense of darkness, which touches deeply into your heart and communicate directly with your hidden sorrow. She faces to and talks to your inner sadness, but she does not bit them nor bring you down. The reasons she discovers your sorrow is to communicate with them and soften them smoothly and quietly. This kind of darkness that she brings with you is not the one for you to be drown in but the one to let you know, that you own companions even when you are down, together you could finally meet the lights.
The songs of her are far from reality. When listening to her song, you are like entering in a fairyland or an unknown world. They could sometimes be historic to cover a vast image, you are like facing an endless forest or a grand sea when listening to her song. In this unknown word, nothing is limited, it is conclusive enough to take in all your thoughts and voices.
To get to know more about Fleurie, I recommend you to start with these three songs.
Carry You-The first time I listened to this song, I was in a period of time full of loneliness and helplessness. This song just owns a power to cheer things up. It reminded me of Safe and Sound, another song also soft but powerful. This kind of power is not the one that is full of strength nor those bright enough to make you in high-spirit immediately. This is a song that invites you into a world that full of scars and darkness and sorrows, but the voice is the weapon to lead you out. Surrounded by this song, you are like fighting against all the challenges and discrimination and yet you don’t feel afraid. “You are not alone, I have been here the whole time singing you a song”. The true power against all the difficulties are to face them even with full scars, and the truth that someone is by your side will be your reason to fight till end.
Breathe and Turns You Into Stone-These two songs both begin with low pitch and soft voice, gradually, drumbeat behind makes you enter a historic world, giving out a sense of darkness and gloom. After the theme melody of these two songs, they progress into another stage, with pitch enhancement or a fusion with symphony, they picture you with the image of war and long history. The gentle woman voice here, as a comparison, spreads out a feeling of couple temper force with mercy.
The reason why I love so much this musician, might be because, for myself, I would like as well to be that independent one not being alike anybody. As Fleurie, we would not be the one always look sunny and happy, but with a little darkness and sombreness inside, we could also shine and glow.
If you are also the one who is a bit tough to deal with, who doesn’t like to be that easygoing one in the daily life, who likes to dip into an unreal unknown dreamlike and mysterious world, join me in the Fleurieland.
